You may be considering doing freelance typing work from home either as a way to earn some extra money in the evening or as a path to a new work at home career. Typing is a skill that will always be in demand and being able to type, especially proficiently and accurately with speed will give you an advantage in the typing jobs market.
There are various different freelance typing jobs that you could do, it will depend a lot on your current skills. Copy typing and audio typing or dictation along with translating are all specially skilled jobs. There is work you can do if your typing skills are not as advanced but you will find there are more people looking for this same type of work and it pays less.
If you are willing to take on a variety of typing jobs then you will find that you will probably be more successful as you will not have to rely on a narrower market. For example if you do medical transcriptions whilst the work is there and then be willing to take lower paid freelance typing work when times are leaner you will be more able to make this a full time work at home typing career.
Apart from searching the internet you should consider your local area. There are many small business people who may not have the size to be able to hire a permanent typist. You could make yourself available for ad hoc work which will benefit both you and the local business. If you build up a list of local potential business people you should be able to generate enough work to keep yourself busy. If you are willing to be flexible this will open up avenues to other types of computer based work such as doing spreadsheets and presentations for the small business community.
Looking to the internet you have the same options for doing work for small to medium size businesses. There is an active market for article writing and translation services. As the internet grows in the Asian and South American markets there will be a greater demand for translators to be able to translate between English and various other languages.
