The biggest issue that I come across from people looking to find a typing job or other home based work is being ripped off and the fear of being ripped off. You may be thinking to yourself that you would never fall for one of those online rip offs or think that you are much too smart to be conned or tricked.
The sad fact is that everyday normally sensible and intelligent people lose money from online job fraud. There is quite a lot of information available on the internet about avoiding scams and how to spot fraudulent sites. You can even get specific advice about certain types of job scams that are currently going on. The only problem is that you can never be aware of every possibility and that is why sticking to one simple rule should keep you safe. Never hand over money for a job, don't worry that once in a lifetime opportunity or dream home based job you are being offered isn't going to disappear because you haven't handed over £19.99 to some website or company. It didn't exist in the first place, they just wanted your cash.
Firstly stick to the rule of not handing over your money, put your purse or wallet away and pay attention. If you want to be able to earn some money working from home there are several routes you can take. Most people will probably be looking for the traditional route of applying for some type of typing position with a company that allows home workers or tele-commuters. This means that you work out of your own home on your own computer for a company. This can mean people looking for evening jobs from home, weekend work or working various hours during the day.
These types of job do exist but they are few and far between, you only need look through the online job listings to find this out. You could contact companies directly but you better have a short, to the point and snappy digital CV to send them. If you want to be able to get one of these types of job then you are going to have to expect to compete against hundreds of other applicants. If you look at the job listing some of them tell you how many people have applied, the number of applicants for home based typing jobs easy outstrips other type of job many times over.
If you want that home typing job you are going to have to be a bit sneaky, well not really sneaky but more persistent and less direct. Let me explain. If you cold called a company you will more than likely get through to a secretary or call desk. When you ask if they are employing they will probably tell you they are not, they really may not have any vacancies or the person you are taking to is not aware of any. They hang up the phone and no job. No-one in that company knows you are available for work or that you have even called.
Employers face a difficult task in recruiting trusted and reliable staff, this is why they like to employ friends or relatives of people that already work for them. Obviously you will have no friends or relations with the companies that you apply for but you can do the next best thing. If a potential employer has some sort of connection with you they are more likely to employ you, but how do you get that connection? Simple just hang out online where potential employers may be. Business forums and other types of online discussion forum in the industry that you want to work is a good place to make your presence felt. You could also put together a page on the internet or a blog showing your skills and offering your services.
Rather than waiting for a typing job to come to you why not go to the work by becoming a freelance typist working from home. Whilst there are a lot of people chasing a few home typing jobs there are far fewer offering their freelance typing services to these potential employers. Not every business is looking for a permanent employee, they may only have work available from time to time so do not want to take on a permanent worker with all the costs and responsibilities involved. Many small firms much prefer to hire freelance workers to do jobs for them when they need them doing. This means that you have much more opportunity of getting paid work over someone who is looking for a position as an employee.
So what exactly does it mean to freelance? Essentially it means that you are working for yourself and rather than the employer paying your taxes you pay them yourself. Many people may be anxious about having to pay their own tax but you do not have to be. For most of you it will just mean recording your earnings and outgoings. At the end of the tax year you go online to the HMRC website and type in the total amount of earnings and your expenses and they will tell you how much tax you owe. You don't even need an accountant.
Freelancing sounds harder than it actually is and it does cover a multitude of ways to earn money from home. You could do anything from taking surveys and cover a plethora of computer based admin work. The trick is that you have to be put the work in and not give up after the first hurdle. Freelancing is not the same as a job, its your career and your business. You can earn far more and be more financially secure going this route.
