So you want to find a jab that you can do from home? The first thing you need to decide is whether or not you want to work at home or just be based at home. Do you have commitments that mean you have to stay in the house? Are you able to leave the house periodically to do jobs, some work may require you to use your home as a base of operations or office and you may spend a proportion of your time away from the office.
Your next consideration is whether or not you are going to be working for other companies or working for yourself. The difference is that a company will find the work and outsource it to you. If you work for yourself then you will go out and find a majority of your work for yourself. Working for another company means that you can concentrate on doing work rather than getting work. The downside is that there is a high level of competition for this type of work and so the level of pay will be much lower and the jobs few and far between.
The first thing to do is to get a blank sheet of paper and write down your skills, this is basically a list of things you can do such as freelance typing. It might sound a bit silly but it will be pointless you trying to get someone to employ you if you cannot do the job. A case in point is doing medical transcriptions online. You may be able to type but you are unlikely to get a job transcribing medical letters if you do not have the same experience as medical transcribers. On the other hand if you do have such a sought after skill then you are more likely to get a better paid job working from home as there will be fewer other people able to do this type of work.
So you know what you can do, now you need to decide what you are available to do. If you have kids at home you need to look after then there are going to be certain jobs that you will not be able to do. This should not be considered a disadvantage as more and more work is being done online in front of a computer so being able to type and use the basic functions of a computer is a big plus.
The internet may be the logical option for you. The internet is basically just a way for people to connect, a mother to be able to talk to her son in Australia, a buyer to connect with a seller and employee connecting with an employer. The internet has opened up far more opportunities for people that did not used to exist. This makes the internet a great starting point for finding work you can do from home.
One factor that does both worry and annoy people is the fact that there are a lot of shady operations and scams on the internet. The important rule to remember is never hand over any money unless you know exactly what you are paying for. If someone offers you an opportunity demand to know what exactly you will be doing, if there are any other expenses and how much realistically you can expect to earn. Companies that offer to find you work but you have to pay a fee up front should be considered with extreme caution.
