Allan Asks:
Hello,I'm just wondering if there is just straight copy typing work from home available and if so do you know any sites I can visit. Your help is much needed,Thank You?
Thanks for your question about copy typing from home. There are many different types of typing skills including copy typing, transcription or audio typing. The process of copy typing means that you literally type up what has already been written down. This is usually hand written copy, medical transcriptions seem to pop up a lot on the net if you are doing a search for typing jobs.
Unfortunately since I have been running this site and researching typing jobs I have never found a legitimate site offering copy typing work. There may be several reasons for this, most particularly is the fact that copy typing cannot be done exclusively online. If a company hired you to do copy typing they would have to post you the documents. Generally this type of work is done locally or outsourced abroad to countries such as the Philippines where they speak good American English and work for a much lower cost than here in the UK.
If you want to do copy typing work you will have a better chance of finding work by looking locally. If you are willing to work on a freelance basis you can approach local direct marketing companies and offer your copy typing services. You could offer to collect the documents type them up and return the documents complete with a CD full of the typed up copy.
If you want to work exclusively online you may have better luck looking for dictation or transcription work. This is where you type up spoken information from tapes or digital recordings. There are specialist companies who offer transcriptions over the internet. I have never used any of these types of company so there are none that I could comfortably recommend. However if you do a search for transcription services you can contact these companies via email and ask if they are taking on. Many do employ UK based typist as many prefer native English speakers.
Be wary of any companies that require a registration or start up fee, if they want to hire you they will not ask for money up front. It will take a bit of work contacting them directly but it will increase your chances of getting work. Much about getting this type of work is about networking, once you become known other companies will trust your skills and be more likely to offer you more work.
I hope this helps and I have covered copy typing before if you need further information. If you have good typing skills then you may want to consider other types of typing work which may pay more than just straight copy typing.
